Replace the ink cartridges

1. Press the power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already on. It may take a few seconds for the printer to turn on after pressing the Power button.

2. Load plain Letter or A4 white paper in the input tray.
– Raise the printer cover.

– Slide the paper width guide to the left.
– Raise the Out tray.
– Place the paper with the side to be printed on facing down in the In tray, and then push the paper into the printer until it stops.
– Lower the Out tray.
– Slide the paper guide firmly against the edge of the paper.

Remove the old cartridge
3. Open the printer cover, if you have not already done so. Wait until the print cartridge cradle moves to the center of the printer and is idle and silent before you continue.

4. Press down on the empty cartridge to release it, and then pull it toward you out its slot. Remove the cartridge from the slot on the left to replace the tri-color cartridge. Remove the cartridge from the slot on the right to replace the black (OR photo) cartridge.

5. Place the old ink cartridge in an envelope and refer to HP’s recycling instructions at http://www.hp.com/recycle .

Insert a new cartridge
6. Remove the new cartridge from its package. Be careful to touch only the black plastic on the cartridge.

7. Remove the plastic tape using the pull tab.

Do NOT:
– Remove the copper electrical strip.
– Touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles.
– Replace the protective tape on the contacts.

8. Hold the print cartridge so that the copper strips are on the bottom and facing toward the printer. Slide the print cartridge firmly into the cradle at a slight upward angle until you feel resistance. The push on the upper part of the print cartridge forward until it snaps into place. If you are installing the tri-color print cartridge, slide it into the left slot. If you are installing the black OR photo print cartridge, slide it into the right slot.

9. Close the printer cover.

Calibrating print cartridges
10. After installing a print cartridge, calibrate the print cartridges to ensure the best print quality.
a) Open the printer Toolbox: Open the Printer Properties dialog box, click the Services tab, and then click the Service this device button. The Printer Toolbox appears.

Replace the ink cartridges.

1. Check that power is on. If the product is off, press the Power button to turn on the product. Wait until the product is idle and silent before continuing.

Remove the old cartridge
2. Open the cartridge access door.
Locate the two slots on the sides of the printer. Place your fingers in the slots, and then lift to open the ink cartridge access door. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before you proceed.

3. Press the tab on the front of the cartridge inward to release it, and then pull up on the cartridge to remove it from the slot.

5. Remove the orange cap from the cartridge. Twist the cap counter-clockwise until it snaps off. A forceful twist may be required to remove the cap.

6. Gently bend the tab away from the ink cartridge.

7. Hold the ink cartridge so that the ink cartridge contacts are facing down and toward the printer. Match the colored dot on the ink cartridge with the dot of the same color on the carriage. Slide the new ink cartridge into its slot, and then gently press the ink cartridge down until it clicks into place and is seated firmly in the slot. Make sure that the color-coded letter on the cartridge matches that on the slot.

8. Repeat step 3 to 7 for each ink cartridge you are replacing.

9. Close the cartridge access door.

Align the printhead only if necessary.
The printer automatically aligns the printhead during the initial setup. The printhead does not have to be realigned when cartridges are replaced. However, you might want to use this feature for print quality issues in printouts where straight lines look wavy or jagged. You can align the printhead from the printer control panel, from the HP printer software and from the embedded web server (EWS).

Replace the ink cartridges

1. Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already turned on. It can take a few seconds for the printer to turn on after you press the Power button. Wait until the product is idle and silent before continuing.

2. Load unused, plain white letter or A4-sized paper in the tray, if you have not already done so.

Remove the old cartridge
3. Open the top cover. The carriage moves to the center of the printer. Wait several seconds until the carriage is idle and silent before you proceed.

4. Press in the tab on the front of the cartridge to release it, and then pull it up and out to remove it from its slot. Do NOT lift the latch handle on the print carriage to install the ink cartridges. Doing so can result in incorrectly seated ink cartridges and printing problems. When you remove the plastic wrap, the paper label on the top of the cartridge tears slightly, which is necessary to properly vent the cartridge.

6. Hold the cartridge by its sides, and then twist the protective orange cap counter-clockwise to snap it off the cartridge. Make sure the plastic tab is entirely removed. Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

7. With the cartridge contacts facing the printhead, slide the cartridge into the correct slot. Make sure that you insert the ink cartridge into the slot that has the same shaped icon and color as the one you are installing. Press down on the cartridge until it clicks into place and is seated firmly in the slot.

If the cartridge does not snap into place, remove the cartridge from the carriage. Gently bend the tab away from the cartridge, and then reinsert the cartridge into the carriage.

8. Repeat steps 4 through 7 for each ink cartridge that you want to replace.

9. Close the ink cartridge access door. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Align the printhead only if necessary.
The printer automatically aligns the printhead during the initial setup. You might want to use this feature when the printer status page shows streaking or white lines through any of the blocks of color or if you are having print quality issues with your printouts. You can align the printhead from the printer’s control panel, from the Toolbox (Windows) or HP Utility (OS X), and from the embedded web server (EWS).

Replace the ink cartridges

If you remove and reinstall the same print cartridge, the HP All-in-One will not prompt you to align the print cartridges. The HP All-in-One remembers the alignment values for that print cartridge, so you do not need to realign the print cartridges.

11. Lift the scanner lid.

13. Close the scanner lid.
14. Press the button next to OK on the control panel display. The product automatically aligns the cartridges.
15. When the Alignment successful message displays on the control panel screen, press the button next to OK on the control panel display to complete the alignment.

The alignment page did not print?
If the printer did not print an alignment page, follow these steps to manually align the printer:
– In the HP Printer Software, click Printer Actions and then click Maintenence Tasks to access the Printer Toolbox. The Printer Toolbox appears.
– Click Align Ink Cartridges on the Device Services tab. The product prints an alignment sheet.
