Replace the ink cartridges

1. Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already turned on. Wait until the product is idle and silent before continuing.

2. Load unused plain white Letter or A4-sized paper into the input tray, if you have not already done so.

Remove the old cartridge
3. Open the access door. To do this, gently grasp the handles on either side of the printer, then raise the ink cartridge access door until it locks into place. The carriage moves slightly to the left. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before you proceed.

7. Hold the ink cartridge by its sides with the nozzles toward the printer, then slide the ink cartridge forward into the slot. Then close the latch until it clicks to secure the ink cartridge into place. The tri-color cartridge goes in the slot on the left, and the black cartridge goes in the slot on the right.

8. Repeat the previous steps to install the other ink cartridge, if needed.

9. Close the ink cartridge access door.

Align the cartridges
– The HP printer software prompts you to align the ink cartridges when you print a document after installing a new ink cartridge. The printer automatically prints an alignment page. Wait for the alignment page to fully eject from the printer.
– Lift the product lid.
– Place the alignment page on with the printed-side down on the right-front corner of the scanner glass. See the engraved guide next to the scanner glass for help loading the alignment page.

– Close the lid, and then touch OK on the printer control panel. The product scans the alignment page and completes the alignment process.
– After the printer aligns the ink cartridges, touch OK on the control panel.
– Discard or recycle the alignment page.

Replace the ink cartridges

1. Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already turned on.

2. Load unused plain white Letter or A4-sized paper into the input tray.

3. Lower the output tray, reach inside the printer, grasp the handle, and then lower the ink cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the center of the printer. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before continuing.

4. Lightly press down on the cartridge to release it, and then pull the cartridge out of its slot.

Insert the new cartridge
5. Remove the new cartridge from its packaging. Be careful to only touch the black plastic on the ink cartridge by holding the ink cartridge by its sides.

6. Pull the coloured tab to remove the plastic tape.

Do NOT:

10. Close the cartridge access door.

Align the cartridges

11. To achieve the best print quality, it is necessary to align the ink cartridges. After installing new ink cartridges, the printer automatically prints an alignment page.

– Lift the scanner lid.
– Place the alignment page with the print side down on the scanner glass, and then position it according to the engraved guides around the glass.

– Close the scanner lid.
– Press the Start Copy Black button or the Start Copy Color button on – the printer control panel. The printer aligns the ink cartridges.

The alignment page did not print?
If the alignment page did not print automatically, you can align the cartridges manually from the printer software.

– Open the HP printer software.
– Click Print & Scan, and then click Maintain Your Printer to access the printer toolbox.

– Now go back to step 11.

Replace the ink cartridges

1. Turn the printer on by pressing the power button, if it is not already turned on. Wait until the product is idle and silent before continuing.

Remove the empty cartridge
2. Slip your fingers behind the upper side of the front door, and then pull forward to open the front door.

3. Lift the cartridge access door. Wait until the print carriage stops moving before proceeding.

4. Find the cartridge you want to replace. Push in on the front of the cartridge to release it, and then pull it toward you to remove it from its slot.

Insert the new cartridge
5. Remove the new ink cartridge from its packaging. Do NOT touch the electrical contacts and ink port.

Do NOT lift the latch handle on the print carriage to install the ink cartridges. Doing so could cause the printhead or ink cartridges to be incorrectly seated, which can cause errors or print quality problems. The latch must remain down in order to correctly install the ink cartridges.

6. Hold the new cartridge so that the cartridge contacts face the printer. Using the color-coded letters for help, slide the ink cartridge into the empty slot until until it clicks into place and it is securely installed in the slot. Make sure that you insert the ink cartridge into the slot that has the same colored letter as the color you are installing.

8. Close the print-carriage access door.

9. Close the front door and wait until the warm-up sequence finishes and your printer is quiet before you proceed.

Align the printhead only if necessary.

However, you might want to use this feature for print quality issues in printouts where straight lines look wavy or jagged. You can align the printhead from the printer software and from the printer display.

Replace the ink cartridges

Align the cartridges when prompted to do so
The HP printer software prompts you to align the ink cartridges when you print a document after installing a new ink cartridge. Aligning the cartridges ensures the high-quality output. If you remove and reinstall the same ink cartridge, the HP All-in-One will NOT prompt you to align the ink cartridges. Follow the instructions on the printer display to align the cartridges. You can also align the cartridges from the printer software.

A. To align the cartridges from the printer software
– In the printer software, click Print & Scan, and then click Maintain Your Printer to access the Printer Toolbox.
– In the Printer Toolbox, click Align Ink Cartridges on the Device Services tab. The printer prints an alignment sheet.
– Load the alignment sheet print side down on the right front corner of the scanner glass and follow the instructions on the printer display to align the cartridges. Recycle or discard the cartridge alignment sheet.

– From the Home screen on the printer display, select Tools.
